Couples Counseling in Asheville & North Carolina
Couples Counseling for those shifting old patterns
You love each other, and something has you stuck. Maybe you find yourself terrified your replicating your parents’ mistakes or the same patterns from another relationship. Maybe you keep landing in the same exhausting argument, each of you certain the other one started it. You want deep connection but sometimes get trapped in a cycle of hyper-vigilance, anxiety, and disconnection.
Underneath most conflict between partners are a few deeper questions: Am I loved? Am I enough? Can I count on you? The patterns that keep you stuck usually aren't really about the dishes or the plans for Saturday. They're old protective strategies, shaped by earlier wounds and sometimes by patterns that go back further than either of you. We get at the root of the cycle you are in so you can find another way together.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) & Somatic Couples Therapy
Using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy alongside somatic awareness and depth-oriented practice, we get underneath the patterns to what's actually driving them, so you can be more connected, more honest, and more genuinely yourselves together.
In session, that often looks like:
Slowing down enough to notice what's happening in your body in the moment of conflict.
Noticing what each of you do to protect yourself and why it once made sense.
Practicing new ways to reach for each other instead of away.
My aim is to help you feel more connected and more in touch with soul so each of you can be supported offering your gifts to the world.
I work with monogamous, non-monogamous, and queer couples, and provide LGBTQIA+ affirming care.
I have also supported many couples where one or both are struggling with addiction or are in recovery.
